Ruby Mae Redman Long, 75, of Chesterfield formerly of Essex Co. departed this life on June 11.
Ruby was born on January 3, 1950 to the late Soloman and Shirley Redman in Essex County Virginia. In addition to her parents, Ruby was proceeded in death by her husband, Eric Long, brothers, Soloman Jr. and Marvin Redman, sisters, Delores and Peggy Redman, and her baby boy Shawn Andre Long.
Ruby accepted Christ at an early age, and was a life-long member of the Good Hope Baptist Church in Dunnsville, Va. She was raised in Essex County and attended the Essex County public school system. Ruby was a spiritual warrior, a dedicated wife and a loving mother. She had a deep admiration for her family, especially her two sons, Tony and Shawn. The three of them had a special bond that was truly unexplainable even up until her transition.
Ruby leaves to cherish her memory her son, Juan Long (LaLisha) of Chesterfield, VA, one sister Gloria Gray of Hampton, VA, two brothers in law: Harrison Long (Ruby) of Tappahannock, VA and Orson Wayne Long of St. Stephens Church, VA, two sisters in law: Corenia Long of St. Stephens Church, VA and Charlene Redman of New Kent, VA as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and a special therapy dog, “Jackson” who always brought a smile to her face.
There will be a viewing on Tuesday, June 17 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Good Hope Baptist Church, 342 Johnville Rd., Dunnsville. The interment will be in the church cemetery.
