Rodney Linnell Fortune, 60, of Newtown departed this life on October 12 peacefully in his home in Newtown.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Flossie Gaines of Newtown: a son, Rodney Roane of Tappahanock, a dedicated long-time partner, Deborah Brown, a sister, Maria Berry (Richard) of Newtown, two brothers: Ives Fortune, Jr. (Gwendolyn) of Tappahannock and Bruce Fortune of Newtown; six grandchildren: Romanta Roane, Roshaun Roane, Roman Roane, Romell Roane, Essence Roane and Jamonte Holmes all of King William; four bonus children: Ciera Davis of Stafford, Jessica Martin (Ernest) of Tappahannock, Amy Brown and Brian Brown both of Ashland; eight bonus grandchildren: Heaven Walker, Avari Walker, Malachi Martin and Ernest Martin III of Tappahannock, Ta’Layah Davis and Greyson Ward both of Stafford and Devron Brown and William Robinson both of Ashland; three aunts: Romaine Green of Caroline County, Shirley Lumpkin of Philadelphia, PA and Myrtle Alsop of Newtown; one sister-in-law, Brenda Fortune, two nephews: Kevin Fortune Jr. and Keith Weeden (Katrice) of South Carolina; a niece, Rishyne Gaines of Charlottesville, VA. He is also survived by a host of cousins, friends and other devoted relatives.
The viewing will be held on Friday, October 18 from 3-6 p.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 21180 Bagby Rd., Sparta, where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 19 at 2 p.m. The interment will be in the church cemetery.
