Rev. Dr. Ronnie Nelson Sidney, Sr., 77, of Essex County, Virginia, departed this life on July 11, 2025. Born June 9, 1948, in Petersburg, Virginia, he was the son of the late Henry and Toretha Jones Sidney.
Dr. Sidney was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gwendolyn Sidney; his siblings Allen Sidney, Alex Sidney, and Leslie Sidney; four sisters-in-law, Sheryl Baker, Gloria Sidney, Delia Sidney, and Joyce Smith; and three brothers-in-law, Charles "Bookie" Washington, Sr., Larry Smith, and Arthur Campbell.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Cherlanda Sidney-Ross (Vannaber) and Ronnie Sidney, II (Talisha); his treasured grandchildren, Deandre Sidney, Sydney Ross, Endia Ross, Morgan Self, Mali Sidney, Malia Sidney, and Tahj Sidney; two brothers, James Henry Sidney (Peggy) and Roy Dean Sidney; two sisters, Carrie Lee Sidney Campbell (Arthur) and Joyce Ann Sidney; brother-in-law, Robert Patrick; one sister-in law, Constance Washington; his fiancé, Belinda Dorsey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives he touched.
Rev. Dr. Sidney dedicated over four decades to ministry, serving as Pastor of Second Baptist Church in Warsaw, Virginia from 1997-2005, and continued as Associate Minister at Good Hope Baptist Church in Dunnsville. He was a proud alumnus of Peabody High School and earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Richmond Virginia Seminary.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Good Hope Baptist Church, 342 Johnville Rd., Dunnsville, VA, 22454. The family will receive family and friends from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Essex High School, 833 High School Circle Tappahannock, VA 22560, at 11:00 am. The interment will be at Good Hope Baptist Church.
