John W. O’Neal, 82, aka, “Johnny” or “Jr”, of Champlain departed this life suddenly on Friday, June 5 in a Mechanicsville hospital.
He was a family man who was always busy doing outdoor work. He retired from the Indian Head Naval Weapons Station after 32 years of service. After retiring he worked part time for Perdue Grainer and was a car salesman for Al Lumpkin Car Sales. He currently was a full-time substitute bus driver for the Essex County Public Schools.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Byrd O’Neal, a son, John F. O’Neal (Jessica) of Mechanicsville, a granddaughter, Taylor O’Neal and one brother, Robert O’Neal (Dorothy) of Champlain.
The viewing will be held on Friday, June 12 from 2-6 p.m. here at Washington Funeral Home, Tappahannock. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 13 at 11 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, Champlain. Rev. Daniel A. Goodall, Pastor.
All services will adhere to current state mandated restrictions such as appropriate face coverings and social distancing. The staff will give instructions upon arrival to those who are in attendance.
